About Us
Why we were founded
Founded in 2013, Your Own Place was created to meet a need identified by our founder and former CEO, Rebecca White. After years of supporting young people leaving the care system, she saw firsthand how challenging the transition to independent living could be, without the safety provided by the care system. Navigating the housing system, understanding tenancy responsibilities, managing money, and making difficult financial decisions can make the shift to adulthood feel overwhelming and immediate.
Your Own Place was established to change this. We exist to help people build the skills, knowledge, confidence, resilience and support networks they need to successfully access housing, sustain a tenancy and thrive in their own home.
Why we exist today
Over time, it became clear that Your Own Place’s approaches and values could benefit anyone who was facing homelessness, and not just the young people who inspired the idea. The shift was gradual and purposeful, with more opportunities to widen the net of people we can support. We believe that preventing homelessness starts with removing barriers, ensuring anyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance, can access the right support when they need it.
Today, under the leadership of CEO Zoe Webb, Your Own Place CIC is a multi-award-winning social enterprise with lived experience at its heart. We deliver accessible, inclusive and trauma-informed workshops that build practical skills for life, improve financial resilience and empower people to unlock their potential.
A global pandemic, the “Cost of Living Crisis” and a huge shift to navigating life in a digital world; so much has changed in society within a few years. With Shelter reporting a 14% increase in homelessness in 2024, we know that the need for targeted prevention is greater than ever. We remain committed to prioritising values, relationships, quality, impact and trust. With every workshop shaped by lived expertise, people leave feeling better prepared, more confident in sharing their voice, more in control of their finances, and can build valuable relationships so they can thrive in their homes.
