Your Own Place is an award-winning social enterprise delivering Money, Housing, Tenancy and Employability support to prevent homelessness

Training & Development Opportunities

For over a decade, Your Own Place has developed and delivered human, values-led approaches that create meaningful and lasting change. Our training is rooted in meeting people where they are, recognising and building on existing strengths, and creating inclusive learning environments where people feel heard, respected, and start to believe in themselves and their ability to make sustainable change.

Drawing on our experience — both in embodying these approaches and investigating why they work — we have designed a programme to introduce, explore, and provide experiential opportunities to practise these skills before embedding them in your everyday working life.

An image of 5 differently coloured hexagons. The one in the middle is grey and contains an icon of a house with a lightbulb in. Around this one, the top hexagon is orange and says inclusivity and accessibility, with an image on three people being held in a pair of hands. Clockwise is a teal hexagon and says difficult conversations, with an image of money in a speech bubble. Clockwise again is a violet blue hexagon saying restorative practice, with an image of two holding hands. The hexagon at the bottom is a pale coral pink, and says asset-based approach, with a two hands high-fiving.

Upcoming Workshops

Unlocking Strengths – An Asset-based Approach

What if the key to better outcomes already exists within the people you support?

Participants will gain the confidence and skills to apply an asset-based approach in practice, focusing on what people can do, the support networks around them, and the opportunities these strengths create for sustainable change.

Building Confidence Through Restorative Practice

What changes when we stop doing things for people and start working alongside them?

Discover the power of the restorative approach by experiencing it throughout the workshop. Through hands-on learning and reflection, you’ll explore how collaborative conversations can unlock confidence, capability and self belief.

Why A Values-led Approach Matters

Whether you work in housing, homelessness prevention, support, health, youth work, somewhere in the wider VCSE sector, or volunteer in the community supporting people, these workshops will help you feel more confident navigating difficult conversations, building authentic relationships, and working with people in ways that increase agency, self-advocacy, and long-term resilience.

By embedding asset-based and restorative approaches into everyday practice, we believe that “helping” can move away from “doing to” or “fixing” people and instead create spaces where people feel heard, respected, and able to recognise their own strengths and choices. This can lead to stronger engagement, better outcomes, improved trust in services, and ultimately, earlier and more sustainable homelessness prevention.

We believe that one of the most effective ways to prevent homelessness is to equip more people across our sector with the skills and values-led approaches that genuinely support people to thrive. The more people who are able to support others in relational, restorative, and empowering ways, the stronger, more connected, and more self-sufficient our communities become.

One three-hour workshop costs £95

Can I attend more than one workshop?

Yes – we offer a discounted rate if you book more than one workshop at a time

Will there be any tools and takeaways?

Yes – not only will you leave each workshop prepared to embed the approach, but you will also have access to a Padlet that includes further reading, reminders and tips from us, and helpful tools. These are available on our resources page.

The Impact So Far

Over the years, we have trained more than 200 mentors, volunteers, and partners in values-led, restorative, and asset-based approaches. Participants regularly tell us that the training has been useful in building their confidence, strengthening practical skills, and helping them reflect on how they support people to create sustainable change in their own lives.

“I valued his low key and participative style of delivery – sometimes you can feel “lectured at” and since there are always things you do know from experience as well as things to learn, the method of sharing what other people do at different Centres as well as learning from the YOP way of going about things was so much better and meant that I felt engaged all morning.”

– Diss Foodbank Volunteer

I just wanted to share how inspiring and refreshing I found the short asset-based and restorative session you and your team ran at the Homes for Cathy event.  Our daily commitment to ensure people have access to their rights and tireless work to solve someone’s immediate, often pressing, homelessness challenge can sometimes mean we don’t explore with them their agency or capacity for self-advocacy fully. I very much look forward to working with you to share this with our whole team.

– Lesley Burdett, Shelter

‘I think with it being a small group as well it makes it easier for me to get involved. You don’t have anyone just sitting and observing, everyone has played their part’.
