Your Own Place is an award-winning social enterprise delivering Money, Housing, Tenancy and Employability support to prevent homelessness

Our Impact
with young people
Working with young people to recognise and build skills, confidence, and resilience unlocks potential, creates opportunities, and provides early support that helps to prevent homelessness before it starts.
Participant Experiences
With a goal of moving out independently, Jakob prioritised finding the right balance between attending college and completing work experience in the John Lewis Norwich store. By exploring sustainable budgeting methods, Jakob had made changes to his spending habits to save towards his goal.
“My perspective on how I spend money has changed. I’m up to over £200 in my savings now!“
After developing her confidence in 1-2-1 sessions and group sessions with other young people, Mekdelawit embraced the opportunity of work experience with Aviva in Norwich. Her courage, positivity and curiosity had a lasting impact on the team and meant she was encouraged to apply for a job there when the time felt right.
“Your Own Place has increased my confidence and ability to engage with people, and I no longer feel afraid of sharing my opinion.”
Oliver came to us with a clear motivation to find meaningful employment that aligned with his strengths and needs. His strong personal drive to contribute to his family, gain independence, and move forward gave him purpose in managing his home and money.
“Finding how much money I would be making [from working] made me feel more confident in how I’m going to keep on top of my own bills and things on my own.”
Josh* was living in supported accommodation in Brighton when he was referred through the Clocktower Sanctuary to attend a three-day workshop. Initially hesitant about being in a group setting, Josh found ways that he could participate comfortably and, as a result, learnt information on the workshop that helped him secure a property of his own.
“The workshop definitely helped me a lot, particularly what you taught me about loans. [Because of this,] I have now moved out of supported accommodation and into a flat, with the help of a loan that I am able to pay off (that way I didn’t need a guarantor).“
Our Wider Impact
‘I’m actually more confident. I was so worried I was going to fall behind again. I was at the point where I had money and I’d spend it. I’d been doing really well. After the workshop I know I can budget and work it out’.
