Your Own Place is an award-winning social enterprise delivering Money, Housing, Tenancy and Employability support to prevent homelessness

Our Impact
during housing transitions
Moving on from temporary accommodation into a place of your own is a key step towards long-term stability. By supporting people through this housing transition, we help develop and refresh tenancy skills, build confidence, and strengthen the foundations needed to sustain a tenancy, prevent homelessness, and thrive in their home.
Participant Experiences
Mark came to the workshop keen to go over all the costs he’d need to cover when he moved into his own place, as he hadn’t managed his own bills before: ‘my partner always did that’, he said. Having the opportunity to discuss techniques for managing his bills, Mark felt more confident when he finally got the keys to his new place.
“That course was very handy for me, and been putting everything I learnt to good use in my first home. Life’s actually good at the moment.”
Whilst navigating moving on from his family home following a bereavement, Stuart was able to access online workshops to explore everything he needed to know, ready for his first tenancy.
“When I began, I was working out what I had to pay for all my bills. I was trying to sort out housing benefit at the same time as council tax. It’s my first property on my own, and it was all quite daunting for me.”
Having the opportunity to discuss all the aspects of managing a tenancy on her own for the first time meant Rachael built on her existing skills and left the workshops with a clear commitment to her future goals and greater confidence in her abilities.
“I am going to look at my outgoings, see where I can cut down so I can save more for when I get my own place”
Ariana, an outgoing and talented woman, met with us while living at a women’s safe house. Whilst working together, Ariana used her skills to start part-time work, which increased her income and supported in her building new connections.
“My confidence has increased a lot, I like the way that you work with me, and I’m going to miss you when I leave here.“
Our Wider Impact
‘I’m actually more confident. I was so worried I was going to fall behind again. I was at the point where I had money and I’d spend it. I’d been doing really well. After the workshop I know I can budget and work it out’.
