Your Own Place is an award-winning social enterprise delivering Money, Housing, Tenancy and Employability support to prevent homelessness

Our Impact
in the community
By embedding ourselves longer term in community spaces, we can build trust and provide opportunities for connection that enable people to take the lead in overcoming their challenges when they feel ready. Our restorative approach means people build confidence and can practice and develop their skills so that they are better equipped to support themselves in future.
After realising that the key to their success was working together on a joined-up view of their income and spending, Bob & Penny were able to identify changes that meant they could pay off debts and invest in a new boiler and heat their home.
“Thanks to you for getting our brains thinking; you got us out of debt – well, we got us out of debt – and now we can live a normal life”
Lin focused on finding a budgeting method that was visual and kept her accountable. In the process, she identified ways to free up money and chose to invest it in counselling and self-care – two things that deeply matter to her. This realisation only increased her motivation to stay on top of her finances.
“There’s now more self-belief and confidence to do these things, [I] feel less confused and vulnerable, and have a clearer idea of what I’m spending money on and what I need each month, which I didn’t know before.”
Working with a Your Own Place facilitator to address her debts and achieve her financial goals inspired Charli to share Lived Experience to shape projects focusing on connecting communities with support…and set up her own business: Norwich Community Support Umbrella Network.
“That process taught me a different way of learning, because it wasn’t just sitting down and being told something you’ve got to remember. It was being given the tools that were already there at my disposal, and working with me to figure out the ones that work for me.“
Our Wider Impact
‘I’m actually more confident. I was so worried I was going to fall behind again. I was at the point where I had money and I’d spend it. I’d been doing really well. After the workshop I know I can budget and work it out’.
